Maverik to Open 26 New C-Stores

Also closing six stores for sake of ‘consistency’ of customer service

SALT LAKE CITY -- Executives at Maverik Inc. said that they expect to open 26 new convenience stores around the Intermountain West. The aggressive growth plans include expansion into the Las Vegas, Denver and Spokane markets, it said.

With this rapid growth, Maverik executives have made the decision to close six stores—one in Salt Lake City, Utah; one in Gillette, Wyoming; one in Rexburg, Idaho; and three in Boise, Idaho.

The company will close the stores on March 5, 2016.

“As Maverik expands, we want to ensure that our customers enjoy the same level of amazing service no matter the store location,” said Aaron Simpson, vice president of Maverik. “Closing these stores was not an easy decision to make, and it was based on the need for consistency as we continue to grow.”

He continued, “This change will help Maverik concentrate its resources on the overall growth within each community we serve, improving our customers’ experience and opening up new opportunities in the future.”

Simpson said that the company will make “every attempt” to provide employees with other employment opportunities within the company.

Maverik was founded by Reuel Call in Afton, Wyo., in 1928, and has grown to nearly 280 stores in 10 states to become the largest independent fuel marketer in the Intermountain West. Salt Lake City-based Maverik currently employs 3,700 “adventure guides.”
